Invitation to tender for "Development of a Design Manual for Low Volume Rural Roads in Myanmar" The Research for Community Access Partnership (ReCAP) is a six-year programme of applied research and knowledge dissemination funded by a grant from the UK Government through the Department for International Development (DFID). The overall aim is to promote safe and sustainable rural access in Africa and Asia through research and knowledge sharing between participating countries and the wider community. A recent ReCAP assignment was conducted for the review of low volume rural roads standards and specifications in Myanmar. The objective of the project was to conduct a review of existing Myanmar LVRR technical standards, technical specifications and design guidelines in comparison with current regional and international good practice. The review concluded that the existing documents and professional application of Standards and Specifications do not reflect the actual condition of roads in Myanmar. The recommendation therefore was that updated Standards and Specifications and a Design Manual for Low Volume Roads (LVRR) should be developed for the whole of Myanmar. It is intended that these revised standards and specifications and final design manual will be available for adoption within parallel ADB, World Bank and KfW supported DRRD programmes. ReCAP, managed by Cardno Emerging Markets (UK) Ltd, is therefore seeking proposals from suitably qualified organisations for the Development of a Design Manual for Low Volume Rural Roads in Myanmar. The purpose of the manual is to promote rational, appropriate and affordable implementation of projects providing low volume roads that make appropriate use of local resources and is cost effective and sustainable. This tender process is open to any organisation that meets the criteria detailed in the tender documentation. There are no restrictions with regards to nationality or country of registration. Interested tenderers are advised that the indicative budget available for this contract is a total of GBP 170,000.
