Open and enclosed radiation sources and natural radioactive substances (NORM) are considered in particular. Germanium spectrometers (HPGe) are used to fulfill the official tasks of the BfS. By evaluating measured spectra, a large amount of qualitative and quantitative information about radiation sources can be obtained. Tasks can include the identification of unknown radioactive substances, activity determination, nuclear fuel analysis or forensics.
