Description - Description: The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) has commenced the Request for Proposals (RFP) stage for Blackstart services when the electricity grid has experienced a blackout. Blackstart services are used to re-energize the transmission sy stem and provide start-up power to generators who cannot self-start. Generators that provide Blackstart services in specific areas of the province must be able to restart their generation facility with no outside source of power. The RFP stage of the competition to procure Blackstart services opened on January 20, 2025. The competition will be managed through a procurement site called Bonfire (Bonfire Site).
