The ferries on the IJ are one of them. On aver age, 72,000 passengers travel with the IJveren per day (2019). This number is expected to increase by 40% between 2019 and 2030. The housing challenge is considerable, especially around the (northern) banks of the IJ. The ferries will play a crucial role in the coming decade in the connection between Amsterdam to the south and Amsterdam to the north of the IJ.
