For more details on Caritas India please visit our website http://caritasindia.org GOAL OF THE STUDY: Measuring the learning poverty rate among children who are up to the age of 10 and below across the Khushaal Bachpan project locations. Identifying the key factors that act as a bottleneck in the area of education for children hence impacting the entire education ecosystem on ground. Identifying key Pull and Push Factors which contributes to poor learning levels among children as well as drop of children. Based on the findings/observations from the study, consultant/agency should provide possible solutions/methodology/processes to develop an ecosystem which promotes education of children as well as interventions for improving the learning levels of children. SCOPE OFTHESTUDY: The scope of work entails a detailed assessment to capture the learning poverty rate among children who are up to the age of 10 (grade 3), in alignment with their literacy and numeracy skills. The study targets to capture the data across all the 10 districts from 4 states (MP, UP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh). The goals of the project as mentioned above, would require: Support in understanding the existing literature and research. Developing a tool (this will be in alignment with National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat). Foundational literacy skills would include oral language comprehension, phonological awareness, decoding, reading comprehension, and oral reading fluency with comprehension. Foundational numeracy, number identification & comparison, number operations, multiplication and division facts, measurement, fractions, patterns, and data handling. Further to the development of the tool, finalization of the research sample and methodology, followed by data entry and analysis based on both qualitative and quantitative parameters would be required. The criteria for analysis will include comparisons with respect to languages, national-state, and district-wise data, based on gender, private and public management of schools, and various social groups based on the target community. To utilize the findings further, and to open the scope of more research in the field, process documentation of the entire journey, by collating the field experiences and narratives would be helpful.
