Description - Description: The SBB Etzelwerk power station is a pumped storage power station that uses the level difference between the Sihlsee and Lake Zurich. The facility was put into operation in the 1930s and was later expanded in stages. After obtaining the 2023 concession for the continued exploitation of hydraulic power between the lakes of Sihl and Zurich, the power plant installation must be partially renewed and the parts of the installation at the end of their technical life must be replaced. As part of the renewal project at the Etzelwerk power plant, SBB SA plans to partially replace the motive waterway and replace three of the seven machine groups at the Altendorf power plant with new ones.
