Request for Proposal

We are looking for photographers for the year 2023-24 based in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Chennai, Hyderabad and Karnataka who can travel to rural and urban areas to capture WaterAid India’s intervention from time to time as and when required.

About WaterAid India:

Established in 1981, WaterAid has its operations in 27 countries worldwide, transforming millions of lives every year with safe water, sanitation, and hygiene, and working in India since 1986. Since 2010, WaterAid India (WAI) is registered as Jal Seva Charitable Foundation (JSCF), a not-for-profit company under section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956, and is an associate member of WaterAid International. Across India, WAI’s presence is in 13 states, covering 39 districts. While JSCF’s goal is universal access to WASH, its work is prioritized from the locations of the excluded and most marginalized communities. JSCF works on themes such as drinking water security, sanitation, WASH in health and nutrition, WASH in schools, and Menstrual Hygiene Management, in rural areas and in urban locations including census, small and medium towns. JSCF’s head office is located in New Delhi. Each state is managed through state offices. State offices are located in Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Apart from its own programs, JSCF’s work also focuses on WASH policy and advocacy, both at national and state levels.

Deliverables/ Scope of work
Capture through compelling photographs the location, conditions in which people live, the work they have done for the betterment, and the work done by WaterAid.
The photographs will need to capture the present state of the area/ issues/ people and the change brought about by the work done by WaterAid.
The photographs will need to document both problems and successes.
Photographs will need to be accompanied by captions about the issues, activity or people being documented.
The photographer will have to travel to the said locations (rural/urban) to cover the stories. WaterAid India will manage the logistics for travel, cabs and hotel from within India and also recommend the locations for documentation.
The photographer will need to obtain model or property releases depicted in an image where possible and applicable and provide a copy of the same to WaterAid India after the assignment.
The photographer will need to adhere to WaterAid’s Ethical Image Policy as part of this assignment along with the specification of photos, i.e. primary, secondary and tertiary photographs.
We are looking for predominately un-posed, natural images depicting daily life in a community. Try to capture action and movement when it is appropriate.
We try to make sure there is a range of more ‘self-conscious’ portraits and ‘action’ photos that have eye contact with the camera in a selection of images as well taking un-posed, natural shots.
The best shots are clear and uncluttered that really tell the story as much as possible.
While some close-up shots are good, we also need to have images with space around them as they will be used with editorial work. Images (especially of key individuals) may be used for web banners so it’s essential we have a selection of images with space around them.
Please make sure to capture general views of the villages and projects that you will see with WaterAid. Where possible please shoot a panorama or wide shot of each location, including the good and bad situations.
Community in action is also important to illustrate. If construction work is being undertaken it can be very useful to photograph this.
The documentation could also include a collection of case studies. However, this will be discussed and agreed upon by both parties prior to the assignment. This may require the photographer to submit a filled-up interview template of the subject.
People should be portrayed as active and self-reliant. We need a variety of portrait and landscape shots. To see examples of the types of images/videos that we currently use please see our website: www.wateraidindia.org
The photographer will have to share the edited shortlisted photos as high-resolution files in .jpg format in a hard drive/online with captions and keywords including associated case studies added to the photos metadata and as separate files within two weeks of completion of the assignment files.
The format of writing captions is - The name of the person, age, and job title, what the person is doing in the picture, location, including the village/town, region, district and country, followed by the month and year.
WaterAid will share the copyright with the photographer and credit all of the pictures that are used in the format - WaterAid/photographer’s name.
Interested service providers are required to submit their complete proposal along with all terms and conditions to WAIP2PDelhi@wateraid.org by 7th June 2023 which should necessarily include
