In August 2024, a new EU regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1787) will come into effect concerning the reduction of methane emissions in the ener gy sector. Methane, the second largest contributor to climate change after CO2, is a critical objective in the EU's strategy to achieve its climate goals. As a grid operator in the Netherlands, operating 42,000 kilometres of gas network, Alliander N.V. must comply with this new regulation by reporting verified data on the size and locations of gas leak emissions.
