Description - Description: Bat mortality caused by wind turbines near forested areas is a growing concern for maintaining populations of these mammals in a good conservation status. Bats are protected under Directive 92/43/EC, known as the Habitats Directive, as w ell as the Nature Conservation Act. As a signatory to the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) and the Agreement for the Conservation of European Bat Populations (EUROBATS), Belgium is also urged to promote dialogue and research to avoid or mitigate the adverse impact of wind turbines on bats (Resolution 7.5) (see http://www.eurobats.org/sites/default/files/documents/pdf/Meeting_of_Parties/MoP7.Record.Annex8-Res7.5-WindturbinesandBatPopulations_
