Description - Description: In the Kop van Overijssel lie the two special nature reserves Weerribben and De Wieden. Together, these areas form the largest contiguous lowland peat area in North-West Europe (over 12,000 hectares). Many rare animals and plants live in the areas that are protected by the EU Habitats Directive. This vulnerable nature is threatened by invasive exotic aquatic plants (IAAS), such as water fan and uneven-leaved water-weed. In the LIFE-IAAS project, the province of Overijssel is working together with the Drents Overijsselse Delta Water Board, the municipality of Steenwijkerland, Natuurmonumenten and Staatsbosbeheer to remove invasive exotic aquatic plants and thus restore the native
