During major environmental events (avalanches, rockfalls), both transport routes are often closed, meaning Zermatt can only be reached by air. In order to ensure that Ze rmatt can be reached from Täsch in the future, the railway line should be protected from environmental influences. In order to achieve this goal, a new tunnel is planned between Täsch and Zermatt. The preliminary project was developed and completed at the end of November 2023.
